The Department of Labor recently issued a booklet entitled, "Need Time? The Employee's Guide to The Family And Medical Leave Act." This booklet, while designed to guide employees through the FMLA process, is also helpful to employers because it describes, in a straightforward and simple way, the basic principles of eligibility, leave entitlement, medical certification, return to work, and other issues. The booklet also provides simple flowcharts addressing eligibility and leave request processes. The booklet is recommended for HR managers and supervisors who are new to (or rusty on) FMLA processing and would benefit from a basic overview. The booklet may be found here.
