Ms. Jones focuses her practice on employment and immigration matters facing businesses today.

Employment Law
In her employment practice, she provides advice and guidance to employers on all aspects of the employment relationship, including discrimination, harassment, accommodation of disabilities, family and medical leave, wage payment, labor relations, union avoidance, plant closing, performance management, termination of employment, and restrictive covenants, among others.  She also represents employers before administrative agencies.

She has conducted internal investigations and counseled employers on their employment practices.  She has prepared documents relating to all aspects of the employment relationship, such as offer letters and employment contracts, employment handbooks and policies, non-competition agreements, and severance agreements.

Ms. Jones’ practice has included:

  • counseling small, medium and large businesses and national companies on employment practices, personnel management, and employment law compliance issues, including wage classifications, drug testing, employee handbooks, non-competition agreements, and employee terminations
  • representing clients before the Department of Labor, the Public Employee Relations Board, the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing, the California Department of Industrial Relations, and the National Labor Relations Board, the Howard County Commission on Human Rights, the Maryland Human Rights Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the Unemployment Insurance Appeals Board
  • counseling business clients on union avoidance and labor-management relations
  • negotiating collective bargaining agreements, conducting impact and effects bargaining for management, litigating unfair labor practice charges and grievance arbitrations

She has represented clients before both federal and state administrative agencies and in federal and state courts on employment matters involving Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the ADA, FMLA, and common law.  She also has represented clients in arbitrations and is well versed in a variety of alternative dispute resolution techniques.  In addition, she has presented employee training programs, and lectured and written extensively, on a wide variety of employment law topics.

Ms. Jones is admitted to practice in the State of Maryland, the District of Columbia, and the State of California.

She is an active member of Meritas – Law Firms Worldwide and currently serves on their Board of Directors. She is also past chair of the organization’s Labor & Employment Section and a member of its Leadership Institute Class of 2006.

Immigration
United States law places the burden on employers to ensure that foreign nationals hired to work in the United States are hired in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.  Ms. Jones counsels employers on hiring and other work authorization compliance issues and assists eligible foreign nationals and employers with the process of obtaining employment-based visas and permanent residence status.

Before joining Tydings & Rosenberg, Ms. Jones was a labor relations specialist for the District of Columbia Office of Labor Relations and Collective Bargaining. Prior to that, she was in private practice with The Berkley Law Group, P.C., in San Francisco, California.
