  About the Firm | Diversity

Tydings & Rosenberg LLP values highly the perspectives and varied experiences that are found only in a diverse workplace.  Diversity makes for a broader, richer environment that produces more creative thinking and solutions.  We believe that promoting diversity is essential to the success of our firm.  It is also the right thing to do.

Tydings & Rosenberg was founded on diversity.  In 1930, before it became popular to talk about "diversity," Morris Rosenberg joined Senator Millard E. Tydings in the practice of law—making the firm one of the first in Maryland to break the barrier of religious beliefs.  Tydings & Rosenberg continues this tradition of welcoming and encouraging the success of all persons, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, culture, nationality, age, lifestyle, or physical abilities.

These principles of diversity are integral and essential to our overall success.  They are incorporated into all aspects of our professional practice, including:

  • Recruitment
Tydings & Rosenberg actively recruits a diverse population to our firm.  We work hard to increase our retention rate and to promote women and minority attorneys to leadership roles within the firm, the profession, and the community.  We have an established mentoring program to assist new attorneys in developing their potential and navigating their careers with an emphasis on their success—both professionally and in the community.  For more information about Tydings & Rosenberg's recruiting program, click here.
  • Community Involvement
Tydings & Rosenberg participates in organizations and activities that assist diverse populations in the community.  We are involved in the Maryland Volunteer Lawyer Service, Lawyers Campaign Against Hunger, The Equal Justice Council, and the Women Leadership & Equality fellowship program of the University of Maryland School of Law, a unique program that focuses on the social, legal, and structural barriers to women assuming leadership positions in the law and elsewhere.
  • Clients
Tydings & Rosenberg’s clients are diverse.  We represent clients from Europe, Asia, Latin and South America.  Locally, our clients include organizations with women and minority CEOs and women and minority-owned businesses.  A recent example is our partnership with the Legal Aid Bureau of Maryland to provide pro bono representation to the displaced residents of a large apartment complex in a fair-housing claim.
  • Professional Activity
Tydings & Rosenberg attorneys are active members and hold leadership positions in various professional associations, including the National Bar Association, Monumental City Bar Association, and Women’s Bar Association.

Diversity is the cornerstone of our past and the foundation of our future.

2010 DRI Diversity for Success Seminar
DRI’s fifth annual Diversity for Success Seminar is an innovative program for diverse attorneys, in-house counsel, and law firm management.  The seminar is designed to inform you about current diversity trends and help you obtain the necessary tools to keep diversity a priority during tough economic times.  Friday’s Diversity Expo is an excellent opportunity for lawyers and their respective firms to interview with corporations and insurance companies that value diversity and have made a serious commitment to diversify their outside counsel list.  Interviews are limited and pre-selected.  For more information on this year's seminar, click here.

2010 DRI Law Student Diversity Scholarship
DRI offers a Law Student Diversity Scholarship program that is open to incoming second and third-year African American, Hispanic, Asian, Pan Asian, and Native American students. Incoming second and third-year female law students are also eligible regardless of race or ethnicity.  Two (2) scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each will be awarded to successful applicants.  Recipents of the scholarships are announced at the DRI Diversity for Success Seminar in June.
